Arnaud Amaury passe pour avoir dit, lors du sac de Béziers, à des soldats qui lui demandaient comment distinguer les bons fidèles des hérétiques : « Tuez-les tous ! Dieu reconnaîtra les siens. » Le seul auteur par lequel on connaisse ce mot est le moine cistercien allemand Césaire de Heisterbach, qui le prête au légat (sous une forme d'ailleurs un peu différente : « Tuez-les, car le seigneur connaît les siens », en latin : « Cædite eos. Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius. ») dans son livre Dialogus miraculorum (Des miracles), écrit entre 1219 et 1223. Césaire reste assez proche de l'évènement dans le temps (une dizaine d'années), mais il est étrange qu'à propos d'un fait survenu à Béziers, un Allemand soit seul à savoir ce que les sources locales semblent toutes ignorer. on oublie volontairement que toute la population de Béziers a été massacré , donc facile a conclure quand on est logique et de bonne foie
il ne restait plus que les Crapules qui n'avaient pas interé a donner la vrais version, merci a Césaire de Heisterbach sans le vouloir a dit la veritée ,il pouvait pas savoir que plus tard des salops essaieraient de de déformer la vertée.

The Counts of Toulouse and their allies were dispossessed and humiliated, and their lands annexed to France. At the end of the extermination of the Cathars, the Roman Church had proof that a sustained campaign of genocide can work. It also had the precedent of an internal Crusade within Christendom, and the machinery of the first modern police state that could be reconstructed for the Spanish Inquisition, and again for later Inquisitions and genocides. Chateaubriand referred to the crusade as "this abominable episode of our history". Voltaire observed that "there was never anything as unjust as the war against the Albigensians".
